It takes two
Mar 10, 2022
No matter what you’re trying to achieve, I promise you that you will get to your desired outcome if you focus on just two tasks at a time; we call this The Power of Two. For example, if it’s your dream body you’re going after, we all know that the first thing you need to do is eat a diet packed with quality ingredients while avoiding low-quality food. That alone will get you closer to your dream body, but the second thing, daily exercise, will undoubtedly get you to your end goal paired with a balanced diet. Making a daily effort to follow your diet and to work out every day, even if it’s only 20 minutes, is an example of committing to the power of two. The same can go for the development of a top-tier team.
We’ve touched on the SIX traits of high-performing teams in the past. For a quick refresher, these six traits are:
- Communication
- Accountability
- Trust
- Chemistry
- Commitment
- Common goals
Once you and your team have mastered these SIX traits, you all will be a well-oiled machine ready and willing to give your customers the best experience each and every day. Not to mention, an exceptional customer experience is a small way to let them know you’re appreciative of their loyalty to the company. Unless you’re working for a monopoly, the customer knows they can take their business elsewhere even at the slightest unpleasant experience.
The best part of the Power of Two is that by focusing on only two areas of improvement, you’re not overwhelmed by the amount of work you have to put in. While all six traits are essential for a team, you can always work on the six traits two at a time. Maybe your communication is your strength, but accountability and trust aren’t. You can focus on the two weakest links until they become your strength. The Power of Two is a process you can continue until all six traits are second nature. You can rotate the traits by focusing on a new two every day, every week, or every month. Just make sure you’re working on them.
