Building a solid team means focusing everyone’s aim on the same endpoint and encouraging everyone to use their tools to move the company toward it.
Thus, the first step to ensuring every eye on your team is on the same prize is to define the goal for all clearly.
It doesn’t matter how talented your people are – they can’t be expected to reach undefined goals. Instead, great teams need specific targets – complete with deadlines, action steps, and accountability.
Provide that, and things can work seamlessly.
Now your people can share ideas, pitch in to help each other, and go the extra mile to succeed.
Your team can finally be unstoppable with less emphasis on individual performance and more focus on team effort.
That said, here’s a question to mull over in your downtime:
- What can I do to allow me to help define the objectives? Can I figure out what is important to them, what would challenge them, what would make them feel successful, and incorporate those things into a professional goal-setting plan?
Remember – involving employees with a “buy-in” for a particular strategy or game plan makes them much more likely to see it through!
